ELLE magazine issue on Distinctive Styles and I thought it would be fun to do a condensed version. The article details fashion trends by breaking them down into ten distinct styles: I've this blogged somewhere else not sure where.
1. The Minimalist
"There's rigorous order in all she does, from her sparse, white bedroom to her carefully written thank-you notes. Her eye is placated by clean lines and deceptively simple tailoring; her closet is a cool sea of moody grays, blacks and deep blues."
2. The Rocker
"Her biker jacket is the one constant in a life filled with frantic taxi rides to gritty shows and spontaneous trips to London or Tokyo. She is nostalgic for the raw energy of New York City in the '80s."
3. The Architect
"Although she's a power broker - or a ceiling breaker of some kind - she's in love with the style of Wallis Franken, designer Claude Montana's muse. She wants clothes that propel her."

4. The Night Owl
"The new breed of party girl is haunted by the ghosts of '70s night clubbers at Regine's, and everything about her is sly, stealth, and mutedly sexy, from her slick hair to her shifts. Her life is an uncompromising homage to the decadence of the wee hours, where neither a hair nor a seam is out of place, even at

5. The Free Spirit
"She's about breaking the rules, from her tribal jewelry collection to her dinner conversation. She's a world traveler and a collector, and her clothes are an eclectic reminder of cultures and sights seen."
6. The Siren
"She's the evolutionary outcome of years of careful pedigree and generations of ice queens. She's a nostalgic who collects sterling table lighters and conjures Hitchcock blonds when she gets dressed."

7. The Seducer
"Entranced with the world's mysteries, her attentions linger on shadowy corners and closely guarded secrets."
8. The Artist
She's the alternative It Girl, a quirky collector with a demonstrative haircut. For her, clothes are a further extension of her visual aesthetic.

9. The Boss
Dramatic entrances are her forte, and she prides herself on setting the tone for the evening with show stopping dresses and salacious gossip. She draws people in with the jingle of her piled-on jewels. "BlingBling"

10. The Grande Dame
She takes refuge in a world of formal parties and old-world customs. She lines her dresser drawers in scented paper and hangs her dresses on pillowed cream silk hangers. "Vintage 1950s & 1940s Dresses"

As for me .... I'm just simply too versatile to confine to just one style! And I was always on the hunt for the next best piece to add to my collection. I now share my lovely finds in two shops! eBay Store and Etsy Shop. For example in one week the outfits I wear can pretty much cover the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s or just remix my wardrobe with vintage pieces to create my own mode!

I definately can´t adjust to only one style...would find it terribly boring. I do have a special sympathy for the 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 you showed in here. I like to combine different decades as well.
This classification is fun though
I love almost all of them! lol, I too have a hard time choosing only one style >.<
BTW, I tagged you on my blog :P lol
Love this - i'm definetly a mutt when it comes to these things, i just don't think i quite fit any of them, but take the elements i like from all of them :)
Thank you M! it's great to know there are others like myself! :)
Aya, I've been watching the beautiful outfits that you put together and they're are all distinct and lovely! :)
Ok now you have to tell me about that tagging! haha.... new to blogging!
I'll go and check your blog to see what you meant! :)
I think I'm 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10...
I think no one can be a single style, it would just get boring in the end, even Audrey Hepburn who could be considered as a minimalist number 1 had elements on 6, 7 and 10 in her outfits.
I love the blog!
hmm, i like so many of them!..
but i think i would be the artist, with bits of rocker and night owl mixed up int here too..
cool article!
